Centre Philosophy
Our image of the child. We believe children are capable, curious, creative learners who bring their own strengths, identities, cultures, and ways of knowing. They thrive when they feel safe, respected, and deeply connected to the people and places around them. Children in our care are supported to become confident, compassionate global citizens who contribute to a fair, sustainable, and peaceful world.
Relationships. Relationships are at the heart of everything we do. Our educators create a warm, family‑like environment where children and families feel welcomed, valued, and respected. We honour the trust families place in us and recognise that strong, consistent relationships build the foundation for children’s wellbeing, learning, and identity. We work as a collaborative, nurturing team —supporting one another so we can support children.
Our commitment to First Nations. We acknowledge the Yugambeh People, in particular the Gugingin clan as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we learn and play. We commit to embedding First Nations perspectives with authenticity, respect, and ongoing learning. We honour the knowledge systems, stories, languages, and deep connection to Country that First Nations peoples have sustained for tens of thousands of years.
Play Based Learning. Play is the central pathway through which children explore, imagine, problem‑solve, and make meaning. Our practice is informed by theorists such as Vygotsky, Bronfenbrenner, Piaget, Erikson, Froebel, and Dewey. We draw on these perspectives to create environments that are responsive, inclusive, child-centred, and rich in opportunities for active play, inquiry, and joyful learning.
Learning Environments. We provide beautiful, natural outdoor spaces and thoughtfully designed indoor environments that invite exploration, creativity, and connection to nature. Children are encouraged to care for the environment and understand their role in creating a sustainable future. Our environments reflect our belief that children learn best when they feel safe, calm, inspired, and free to follow their interests.
Inclusion and Diversity. We celebrate the diversity of our community and embrace each child’s culture, identity, abilities, and family structure. We create equitable learning opportunities and ensure every child feels seen, heard, and valued. Respect, fairness, and kindness guide our interactions and decisions.
Child Safety and Wellbeing. We are committed to providing a child-safe environment where children’s rights are upheld, and their voices are respected. Children are supported to express themselves, build friendships, and develop a strong sense of belonging. We prioritise emotional safety, physical safety, and the well-being of every child in our care.
Partnerships with Families. Families are children’s first and most influential teachers. We build genuine partnerships through open communication, shared decision-making, and mutual respect. We welcome families into our community and value their knowledge, culture, and aspirations for their children.
Our Educators. Our educators are inspired by the children, by each other, and by their own life experiences. We are reflective practitioners who engage in ongoing professional learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement. We strive to be the kind of educators who ask, as Stephanie Feeney prompts us:
“Who am I in the lives of children?”
